LISA C. SOTO
Lisa C Soto is a visual artist based in Ghana where she is attending the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for her MFA and Puerto Rico. Born in Los Angeles, CA, Soto grew up in New York City and in a small traditional village in the South of Spain, across the waters from Morocco. Her Caribbean heritage and continuous movements between continents and islands have informed her themes, providing her a unique, global perspective. Motifs of trans-culturalism, diminishing borders and diaspora resonate throughout her sculptures, installations and drawings.

Soto recently finished her first permanent art installation “Convergence” in the public realm, in collaboration with Adjaye Associates in 2018. Soto also curates exhibitions and hosted the series Conversations By Artists For Artists, which grew out of her L.A. studio and continued at the California African American Museum. Her work was included in the traveling group exhibition Relational Undercurrents exhibiting over 80 contemporary Caribbean artists. She is also known for her series of interviews for C& América Latina online magazine and the journal Something We Africans Got focusing on community building artists and art scenes. Soto creates interconnections through her art, curatorial practice and writings to tell her own story and to highlight voices from the Caribbean, Africa and the diaspora.
