Stephen Biko Chisuvi is a leading poet, Hiphop artist and community activist, organising alternative shows in poor communities where music is used as a tool for liberation. He is one of the founders of the House of Hunger Poetry Slam in Zimbabwe, which is housed at the Book Café in Harare. He is also the founder of Uhuru Network, an educational trust that uses cultural activism and popular education to advance the struggle for freedom of expression and social justice in Zimbabwe. He has pioneered a new, striking form of poetry. Marrying deep Shona with contemporary struggles, he effortlessly blends Shona culture with the Hip Hop generation. His style, which he calls Toyitoyi, is powerful and rhythmic, strongly criticising oppressive systems in Zimbabwe and beyond. He has performed in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Senegal, Serbia, Switzerland and Germany.
