Manal Shoukair (b. 1992, Los Angeles) is a Detroit-based Lebanese-American artist. She uses performance, video, sculpture and site-specific installations to explore the hyphenated spaces of her multicultural identity, islamic spirituality, and contemporary femininity. Shoukair earned a BFA from College for Creative Studies and was awarded the Imre J Molnar Artistic Achievement Award in 2018. She was widely recognized for her site-specific installation, Elevate, at Shylo Arts, a former synagogue and church in the University District of Detroit. Elevate was published in Hyperallergic and Sculpture Magazine. Her work has been exhibited in New York, Tennessee and internationally in Mexico and Zimbabwe. Shoukair is currently a co-director at CAVE Gallery in Detroit and is remotely pursuing an MFA at Virginia Commonwealth University.
